The Rise of Body Mists
Recently, I've been noticing a huge surge of brands coming out with perfumes and body mists. Just last month, Old Navy launched Old Navy Beauty Co., a new body care line featuring seven fragrances in body lotions, body washes, and hair and body mists. With the entire line priced at $15.99 and under, it's designed to appeal to the everyday consumer who wants to feel and smell good on a budget. And in today's world and economy, I can certainly see the appeal.
Trying 3 New Body Mists
With so many new - and often affordable - scents available, I wanted to try a few for myself and see whether there was actually any value in spending money on body mists, or if it was ultimately better to save up for a traditional perfume.
I ended up with three: the Sephora Collection Vanilla + Almond Milk Body & Hair Perfume Mist, the NYX Professional Makeup Hair & Body Fragrance Mist in Caramelt Mami, and the Phlur Heavy Cream Body and Hair Fragrance Mist.
Sephora Collection Vanilla + Almond Perfume Mist
The Sephora Collection mist smells incredible. The almond note really shines here, which is a refreshing take on a typical vanilla scent, and the longevity was surprisingly strong. It was still evident on my clothes after an entire workday. It also has some appealing formulation claims: it's made with 98 percent ingredients of natural origin, which may be a selling point for consumers who pay attention to ingredient sourcing. At $21.00 for 100 mL, it's a fairly economical option for those looking for a perfume mist.
NYX Caramelt Mami Pro Hair & Body Fragrance Mist
The NYX fragrance mist didn't stand out to me quite as much. At $16.96 for 100 mL, it's more affordable than the Sephora option, but the longevity wasn't there. I found myself needing to reapply throughout the day, even though the initial spray is warm and sweet.
Phlur Heavy Cream Fragrance Mist
Finally, the Phlur mist is a personal favourite - and my winner here. I've actually been working on this bottle for over a year, and I still have a good 85 percent remaining. The price is the least economical compared to the other two ($37.00 for 88.7 mL, or $55.00 for 236.5 mL), but the longevity and complexity of the scent reflect that price increase. It's sweet and bright, and the coconut note adds a creaminess that I really love.
Why We're Choosing Perfume Mists
Overall, I can definitely see the appeal and benefits of perfume mists over traditional perfumes. They cost less upfront and offer more product, and while their longevity is generally reduced compared to traditional perfumes, it's easy enough to reapply. The larger bottle sizes also mean you can get plenty of applications out of a single bottle.
For me, I think perfume mists are a great option for anyone who enjoys experimenting with different scents without committing to the price of a full-size perfume. They're also a fun way to layer fragrances, keep a favourite scent in your bag, or simply smell good throughout the day without feeling like you're using up an expensive bottle of perfume.
